Sarah Russell is collecting ideas about how to make aged care facilities better for residents. To find out more about Sarah and her previous work, click here.

Sarah wants to know what you think about the facilities you visit and what would make them a better place to live. Your suggestions will contribute to a book about how to improve Australian aged care facilities. No identifying information about you or the facility you visit will be collected.

After collecting information from residents and relatives, other people who have first hand experiences of aged care facilities will also be surveyed. Surveys for the following people are coming soon.

  • People who currently work in an aged care facility, including volunteers
  • People who have worked in an aged care facility sometime during past 5 years
  • Managers of an aged care facility
  • Owners of an aged care facility
  • Professionals who have clients in an aged care facility (e.g. doctors, podiatrists, physiotherapists, hair dressers)
  • People who work in aged care policy
  • People who work in an aged care peak body
  • Academics who research aged care
  • Educators who teach aged care, including at university, TAFE and other accredited colleges

Many people have not had any experience with aged care facilities. A survey to collect your ideas about what would make a great aged care facility is coming soon.

Do you live in an aged care facility?

Sarah Russell is collecting ideas about how to make aged care facilities better for residents.

Sarah wants to talk with people like you who have first-hand experiences:

  • What is it like living in your aged care facility?
  • What are the things you like, and don’t like?
  • What would you change or improve?

You have a wealth of knowledge about what it is like to live in an aged care facility. Sarah would like to hear what’s good about where you live and what you think would make it a better place to live.

Do you know anyone living in an aged care facility?

Sarah Russell is collecting ideas about how to make aged care facilities better for residents. Sarah wants to hear from people like you who visit an aged care facility, irrespective of how often you visit.

You are invited to share your ideas about:

  • What you like about the aged care facility that you visit?
  • What things need to change?
  • How can things be done better?

Sarah’s mother lives in an aged care facility, and she visits her often. All of us who visit relatives, friends and neighbours in an aged care facility have a wealth of knowledge. We see what works well, and what doesn’t work.

Sarah would like to hear what you think about the facilities you visit and what would make them a better place to live. Your suggestions will contribute to a book Sarah plans to publish about how to improve Australian aged care facilities. You and the facilities you visit will not be identified in the book.

Sarah completed her doctorate in public health at the University of Melbourne in 1990s. She is an experienced researcher who enjoys talking with people about social issues.

This research project is designed to explore a wide range of views from people who have first hand experiences of aged care facilities. Sarah is surveying visitors, staff, academics and those working in aged care policy. Sarah is also interviewing residents.
